HAUUS Newsletter November-December 2014

HORNELL ALFRED UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST SOCIETY

(HAUUS)

NOVEMBER-DECEMBER 2014

PLEASE NOTE THE DATE CHANGES for December! HAUUS will meet the 2nd and 3rd Sundays in December because of the Christmas holiday.

HAUUS meets at 10:30, at 198 Main Street in Hornell NY. All are welcome. For more information call (607) 698-4508 or 522-7803 or visit our blog HAUUS.org.

November 9 — Itinerant lay minister, Homer Wilkins will be joining us for his program and discussion “Why Do We Go to Church?” Since most Unitarian Universalists do not subscribe to traditional views of God as a superhuman being to be worshiped and adored, and of the church as the “Body of Christ,” our views of the church and of services in a church are non-traditional. This sermon is an examination of these issues.

“November 23 —“The Thanksgiving Table”, is a program and discussing which will be led by George Smith. This is a time we share together as a fellowship. Bring something you cherish that you are willing to give away.

December 14—“Art in the Middle Ages, the Illuminated Manuscript”. Join us for this interactive presentation and discussion led by Polly Nelson.

December 21—“The Festival of Lights” today we gather to celebrate the winter solstice and the coming of the light. We will explore various traditions of the season in pagan and world religions.

News and Notes

Please remember to bring canned and non-perishable food items to HAUUS for donation to various food banks in the area.
