May 14 – Drumming for the soul…Local Artist, Joanie Desimone will lead us in a discussion and drum circle. If you have a drum or other instrument please bring it. There will be some drums and instruments available for those that do not have an instrument.
May 28 – Sound Thinking: a sampling of perspectives on why and how music moves the soul
Why and how are humans moved by organized sound? How does music elicit such a wide range of emotions (ie. ecstasy, sadness, pride, anger, love, contemplation, etc.)? Do listeners, creators and performers experience music differently? Philosophers, scientists, and musicians have offered differing (and often conflicting) perspectives on these and related questions. This talk will present a small sampling of theory, science and metaphysical discussion on these questions and, perhaps we will test them against your personal experience. Friend of HAUUS, Mark Smith will facilitate.
June 11- The Rev. Dick Gilbert will be with us this Sunday to share about his work with Interfaith Impact of NYS. “Our mission is to work for the common good through progressive religious advocacy.” This organization works towards influencing NYS government regarding justice issues in the NYS Legislature. You can visit their website at interfaithimpactnys.org
June 25 – Radical Acceptance: Opening our Hearts in the Face of Fear
Using the solstice energy we will explore ways to respond to today’s challenges with mindfulness and compassion, vs. reacting through anger or fear. We will celebrate our love and connectedness to ourselves and all life through song, dance and prayer. Gloria Osborne is our guest today. She is an initiated grandmother, reclaiming witch, peace activist, holistic nurse and permaculturist dedicated to Creating Tomorrow’s Dreams Today through holistic and regenerative practices.
This program will be at Polly Nelson’s cottage, 8020 Smith Pond Rd Avoca. We will be outdoors weather permitting. Please bring a camp chair if you have one. If you need directions, call the numbers above.
