HORNELL ALFRED UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST SOCIETY

(HAUUS)

September – October 2017

HAUUS meets at 10:30 AM the second and fourth Sunday of the month at 198 Main Street in Hornell NY unless otherwise noted below. All are welcome.  For more information call (607)698-4508, (607)382-6348 or visit our blog at HAUUS.org.

September 10 – George Smith will lead us in our In Gathering and Water Ceremony. Bring a sample of water to represent a part of your summer that you would like to share. Also, chose one of our UU principals and share why it is meaningful to you.

September 24 –Religion Beyond Earth: Why life beyond Earth has an impact on religion. People often believe science and religion to be at war; one attempting to disprove the other. But what if one branch of science could make us view our beliefs a little differently? What if the two aren’t as separate from each other as we think, but together may dictate our future in worlds so vastly different from our own.  A small look into how religion and science are more important than we think.  Stephanie Radcliff will lead us through this exploration.

October 8— As a long time environmental and community minded citizen, mayoral candidate, Joe Duffy will speak about his experiences “RUNNING FOR OFFICE”.  Joe is well known throughout the Hornell area for his Green Party activism and participation in local government.

October 22 – “THE MASKS PEOPLE WEAR” As vulnerable beings we often cannot, do not, fully reveal ourselves when presented with new social situations. We may present one face when interviewing for a job and another when making a celebratory meal with friends. We wear these different personas like masks, the facets of our personality. Shakespeare wrote that all life is a stage and we are but actors on it. Thespian Bree Beard will explore this idea with us.

News and Notes

Please remember to bring canned and non-perishable food items to HAUUS for donation to various food pantries in the area.
